A Recreation of General Douglas MacArthur’s “Duty, Honor, Country” Speech
Robert Tidwell
Title
DESCRIPTION
Celebrating their 60th Reunion, the West Point Class of 1965 invited Robert Tidwell, a Douglas MacArthur reenactor, to come to West Point to recreate his famous Thayer Award acceptance speech. MacArthur delivered his “Duty, Honor, Country” speech on May 12, 1962, in the Military Academy Mess Hall. Here, Mark Bieger, USMA ’91, the President and CEO of the West Point Association of Graduates, introduces MacArthur (Tidwell) much as Leslie Groves, USMA 1918, then President of the Association of Graduates, was there when MacArthur received the Thayer Award. Robert Tidwell then delivers a condensed version of MacArthur’s famous speech, which was his last public address.
