COL(R) Gary Steele, the son of a Buffalo Soldier, entered West Point in 1965 with his brother, Michael. He was the first African-American starter on the football team. He graduated in 1970, and served as an Infantry Officer in a variety of positions until retiring from the Army in 1993.
