DESCRIPTION

Colonel (Retired) Michael Sheehan served in Latin America as a Special Forces officer in the 1980s, and later participated in peace-keeping missions in Somalia and Haiti. After retiring from the Army, he held posts in the State Department and the United Nations, and served as the deputy commissioner for counter-terrorism in the New York Police Department. He is currently Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict. In this interview, he addresses his active duty military career, including his deployments on the Korean Peninsula, his experiences in Central America, and his views on the Iran-Contra affair.
