In this first interview (of three), Colonel Betros discusses his experiences as a cadet at West Point and an officer in the U.S. Army. The purpose is to contextualize the themes of his book, Carved from Granite: West Point since 1902, published in spring 2012. In particular, Colonel Betros’s recollections and commentary address the importance of character and intellect in the professional lives of officers. The second and third interviews focus specifically on the ideas in the book.
